Probability in 3 Ways!

Fractions • Decimals • Percents
With your kind teacher Mrs. Brenda ❤️

Hi my wonderful Grade 6 probability stars! 👋

Probability can be written in three different ways: as a fraction, a decimal, or a percent. They all mean the same thing — just different ways to show the chance!

🍀 ¾ 0.75 75%

1. Easy Conversions

Fraction → Decimal → Percent
Fraction Decimal Percent
1/2 0.5 50%
1/4 0.25 25%
3/5 0.6 60%
7/10 0.7 70%

To change fraction to decimal → divide numerator by denominator
To change decimal to percent → multiply by 100

2. Real Examples

Rolling a die → Probability of rolling an even number = 3/6 = 1/2 = 0.5 = 50%
Picking a red marble from a bag with 4 red and 6 blue = 4/10 = 0.4 = 40%

3. Let’s Practice Together! 🎉

Question 1

A spinner has 5 equal sections. 2 are green. Write the probability as a fraction, decimal, and percent.

Fraction: 2/5
Decimal: 0.4
Percent: 40%

Question 2

The probability of rain tomorrow is 0.75. Write it as a fraction and a percent.

Fraction: 3/4
Percent: 75%

Question 3

If the probability is 1/5, what is it as a percent?

20%

4. In Real Canadian Life 🇨🇦

• Weather apps show “60% chance of rain”
• Lottery tickets show winning chances
• Sports announcers say “75% free throw success”
• Doctors talk about “50% chance of recovery”

You can now express probability in 3 ways! 🌟

Amazing job! You can write probability as fractions, decimals, and percents.

Next time you hear “50% chance”, you’ll know exactly what it means!

Love and lucky high-fives,
Mrs. Brenda ❤️
