Today we learn four important tools to describe a set of numbers: Mean, Median, Mode, and Range. They help us understand data better β€” like test scores, heights, or how many goals players score!

1. What Do They Mean?

Example Data: 5, 7, 7, 8, 12
Mean (Average)
Add all numbers and divide by how many there are.
(5+7+7+8+12) Γ· 5 = 7.8
Median (Middle)
Put numbers in order and find the middle one.
5, 7, 7, 8, 12 β†’ 7
Mode (Most Common)
The number that appears most often.
7 appears twice
Range (Spread)
Biggest number minus smallest number.
12 βˆ’ 5 = 7
