How Much Space Inside?
With your kind teacher Mrs. Brenda ❤️
Today we’re learning about Volume — the amount of space inside a 3D shape! We will focus on right rectangular prisms (like boxes, rooms, and cereal boxes). Volume tells us how much something can hold — water, toys, air, or even how big a swimming pool is!
A right rectangular prism has 6 rectangular faces, like a box.
Units are always cubic units: cm³, m³, etc.
Question 1
A cereal box is 25 cm long, 8 cm wide, and 30 cm high. What is its volume?
Question 2
A swimming pool is 20 m long, 10 m wide, and 2 m deep. How much water can it hold?
Question 3
A gift box has volume 480 cm³. It is 8 cm long and 6 cm wide. What is the height?
• How much water a fish tank or swimming pool holds
• How much space is in a moving box or shipping container
• How much soil you need for a garden
• How much air is in a classroom or hockey arena
• Packaging design for toys and food
Fantastic job! You can now calculate the volume of rectangular prisms.
Try measuring the length, width, and height of a shoebox at home and find its volume!
Love and proud high-fives,
Mrs. Brenda ❤️
