Today we’re exploring the wonderful world of Metric Units! The metric system is used every day in Canada and around the world. It’s based on powers of 10, which makes converting units super easy — just multiply or divide by 10, 100, or 1000!

2. How to Convert Metric Units

Example 1: Length
3.5 km = ? m
3.5 × 1000 = 3500 metres

Example 2: Mass
4500 g = ? kg
4500 ÷ 1000 = 4.5 kilograms

Example 3: Capacity
2750 mL = ? L
2750 ÷ 1000 = 2.75 litres
