Coordinate Grid & Cartesian Plane
With your kind teacher Mrs. Brenda β€οΈ
Today weβre learning about the Cartesian Plane and Coordinate Grid! Itβs like a giant treasure map where every point has an address made of two numbers: (x, y). This helps us locate places, draw shapes, and solve geometry problems. Letβs become expert treasure hunters! πΊοΈβ¨
The Cartesian Plane is a flat surface with two lines that cross at right angles:
β’ X-axis β horizontal (left & right)
β’ Y-axis β vertical (up & down)
They meet at the Origin (0,0)
X goes sideways β Y goes up and down β
Question 1
What is the name of the point where X=0 and Y=0?
Question 2
Start at (0,0). Move 5 right and 3 up. What is the ordered pair?
Question 3
Which axis is the horizontal line?
β’ Maps and GPS (latitude & longitude)
β’ Video games (character positions)
β’ Architects drawing building plans
β’ Finding seats in a hockey arena
β’ Creating graphs in science class
Amazing work! You can now read and plot points like a real cartographer.
Keep practicing β you can create your own treasure maps!
Love and big high-fives,
Mrs. Brenda β€οΈ
