Today we’re learning about inequalities! While equations say two things are equal, inequalities tell us when one thing is greater than or less than another. This is super useful in real life for comparing amounts, temperatures, money, and more. Let’s explore! 📊

1. Inequality Symbols

> means “greater than” → 8 > 5

< means “less than” → 3 < 7

≥ means “greater than or equal to” → x ≥ 10

≤ means “less than or equal to” → y ≤ 4

2. Showing Inequalities on a Number Line

x > 3 → Open circle at 3, arrow to the right

x ≤ 5 → Closed circle at 5, arrow to the left

3. Writing Inequalities

Examples:

• A number is greater than 12 → x > 12
• You need at least 8 pencils → p ≥ 8
• The temperature is less than -5°C → t < -5
