Today we’re learning about unit rates — the best way to compare things! A unit rate tells us “how much of something per 1 unit.” This helps us find the best price, fastest speed, and make smart choices every day. Let’s become smart shoppers together! 🛒

1. What is a Unit Rate?

A unit rate is a comparison where the second number is always 1.

Examples:

• $8 for 4 apples → $2 per apple
• 240 km in 3 hours → 80 km per hour
• 15 cookies in 5 minutes → 3 cookies per minute

2. How to Calculate a Unit Rate

Divide the first number by the second number.

Example 1: 5 kg of apples cost $12.50
$12.50 ÷ 5 = $2.50 per kg

Example 2: You read 120 pages in 3 hours
120 ÷ 3 = 40 pages per hour
