Hi my wonderful Grade 6 friends! 🌟

Today we’re learning that fractions and decimals are two different ways to say the same number! Just like 1/2 and 0.5 both mean half a pizza. This skill helps us with money, measurements, and shopping. Let’s connect them together! 🔗

1. What Does Equivalence Mean?

1/2 = 0.5
3/4 = 0.75
1/4 = 0.25
4/5 = 0.8

They are exactly the same value — just written differently!

2. Fraction → Decimal

Divide the numerator by the denominator.

Example 1: 3/4
3 ÷ 4 = 0.75 → 0.75

Example 2: 5/8
5 ÷ 8 = 0.625 → 0.625

Example 3: 2/5
2 ÷ 5 = 0.4 → 0.4

3. Decimal → Fraction

Use place value to write it as a fraction, then simplify.

Example 1: 0.75
75 hundredths = 75/100 = 3/4

Example 2: 0.6
6 tenths = 6/10 = 3/5

Example 3: 0.625
625 thousandths = 625/1000 = 5/8

6. Real Life in Canada 🇨🇦

Money: $0.75 = 3/4 of a dollar
Gas price: $1.45 per litre = 1 45/100
Sports: batting average 0.325 = 325/1000
Measuring ingredients: 0.5 cup = 1/2 cup
