  1. Look at the big shape and split it into rectangles or triangles you know.
  2. Find the area of each small shape.
  3. Add all the small areas together.

🎯 Let’s Solve Composite Figures!

1. A big L-shape is made of a 10 m Γ— 6 m rectangle and a 4 m Γ— 5 m rectangle. What is the total area?

10Γ—6 = 60 + 4Γ—5 = 20 β†’ Total 80 mΒ²

2. This shape is a 12 cm Γ— 8 cm rectangle with a triangle (base 12 cm, height 5 cm) on top. What is the total area?

Rectangle 96 cmΒ² + Triangle (12Γ—5Γ·2=30) = 126 cmΒ²

3. A house shape has a 20 m Γ— 10 m rectangle and a triangle roof (base 20 m, height 6 m). What is the total area?

200 + (20Γ—6Γ·2=60) = 260 mΒ²
