Area of Rectangles!

How Many Square Units Cover a Rectangle?

Grade 5 Ontario Math 📚 • Measurement

Hello my wonderful Grade 5 superstar! 👋

I'm Kashef and today we're learning about the Area of Rectangles! Area tells us how many square units (like little squares) can fit inside a rectangle. The formula is super easy: Area = Length × Width. Ready to cover some rectangles? Let’s go! 🚀

🧠 What is Area?

Area = Length × Width

We measure area in square units: cm², m², etc.

10 cm
8 cm

Area = 10 cm × 8 cm = 80 cm²

✍️ Easy Examples

Example 1: A book is 25 cm long and 18 cm wide.
Area = 25 × 18 = 450 cm²

Example 2: A classroom is 9 m long and 7 m wide.
Area = 9 × 7 = 63 m²

🎯 Let’s Find Areas!

1. A rectangle is 12 cm long and 9 cm wide. What is its area?

108 cm²

2. A soccer field is 110 m long and 75 m wide. What is its area?

8,250 m²

3. A square rug has sides of 4 m. What is its area?

16 m²
