Perimeter of Polygons!

The Distance Around a Shape

Grade 5 Ontario Math πŸ“š β€’ Measurement

Hello my wonderful Grade 5 superstar! πŸ‘‹

I'm Kashef and today we're learning how to find the Perimeter of Polygons! Perimeter is the total distance around the outside of a shape. For any polygon, just add up all the side lengths. Ready to walk around shapes? Let’s go! πŸš€

🧠 What is Perimeter?

Perimeter = Sum of all sides

Square

Each side 5 cm β†’ Perimeter = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 cm

⭐ Regular Polygons (Easy Rule)

If all sides are equal: Perimeter = Side Length Γ— Number of Sides

  • Square (4 sides): 6 cm Γ— 4 = 24 cm
  • Equilateral Triangle (3 sides): 8 cm Γ— 3 = 24 cm
  • Regular Pentagon (5 sides): 4 cm Γ— 5 = 20 cm

🎯 Let’s Find Perimeters!

1. A rectangle has sides 12 cm, 7 cm, 12 cm, 7 cm. What is the perimeter?

12 + 7 + 12 + 7 = 38 cm

2. A triangle has sides 9 cm, 9 cm, 9 cm. What is the perimeter?

27 cm (9 Γ— 3)

3. An irregular quadrilateral has sides 5 cm, 8 cm, 6 cm, 11 cm. What is the perimeter?

30 cm
