Hello my wonderful Grade 5 superstar! π
I'm Kashef and today we're learning how to find the Perimeter of Polygons! Perimeter is the total distance around the outside of a shape. For any polygon, just add up all the side lengths. Ready to walk around shapes? Letβs go! π
π§ What is Perimeter?
Perimeter = Sum of all sides
Each side 5 cm β Perimeter = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 cm
β Regular Polygons (Easy Rule)
If all sides are equal: Perimeter = Side Length Γ Number of Sides
- Square (4 sides): 6 cm Γ 4 = 24 cm
- Equilateral Triangle (3 sides): 8 cm Γ 3 = 24 cm
- Regular Pentagon (5 sides): 4 cm Γ 5 = 20 cm
π― Letβs Find Perimeters!
1. A rectangle has sides 12 cm, 7 cm, 12 cm, 7 cm. What is the perimeter?
2. A triangle has sides 9 cm, 9 cm, 9 cm. What is the perimeter?
3. An irregular quadrilateral has sides 5 cm, 8 cm, 6 cm, 11 cm. What is the perimeter?
