Reflection!

Mirror Images in Geometry

Grade 5 Ontario Math πŸ“š β€’ Geometry & Spatial Sense

Hello my wonderful Grade 5 superstar! πŸ‘‹

I'm Kashef and today we're learning about Reflection! Reflection is like looking in a mirror β€” the shape on one side is exactly the same as the shape on the other side, but flipped. We call this a mirror image. Ready to explore flips and symmetry? Let’s go! πŸš€

πŸͺž What is Reflection?

When we reflect a shape over a line (the mirror line), we create a perfect mirror image. The shape and its reflection are congruent (same size and shape).

✍️ How to Reflect a Shape

  1. Draw the mirror line
  2. Measure the distance from each point to the mirror line
  3. Mark the same distance on the other side of the line
  4. Connect the new points to make the reflected shape

🎯 Let’s Practice Reflection!

1. If you reflect the letter "b" over a vertical line, what do you get?

The letter "d"

2. Does a square have reflection symmetry?

Yes β€” 4 lines of symmetry
