Understanding Your Data

Grade 5 Ontario Math πŸ“š β€’ Data Management & Probability

Hello my wonderful Grade 5 superstar! πŸ‘‹

I'm Kashef and today we're learning about Mean, Median, Mode, and Range! These are special numbers that help us describe and understand a set of data. Think of them as the "summary" of your numbers. Ready to become a Data Detective? Let’s go! πŸš€

⭐ Mean (The Average)

Add up all the numbers and divide by how many there are.

Example: 8, 10, 12, 6

(8+10+12+6) = 36 β†’ 36 Γ· 4 = 9

⭐ Median (The Middle)

Put numbers in order and find the middle one.

Example: 3, 7, 8, 12, 15

The middle number is 8

⭐ Mode (The Most Common)

The number that appears most often.

Example: 5, 7, 7, 9, 10

7 (appears twice)

⭐ Range (The Spread)

Biggest number minus smallest number.

Example: 12, 18, 22, 9

22 - 9 = 13

πŸ” Compare Data Sets & Analyze Trends

Set A: 10, 12, 11, 13

Set B: 8, 15, 9, 20

Set B has higher mean and bigger range.

πŸ§ͺ Quick Quiz

Question: In the data 4, 7, 7, 9, what is the mode?
