I'm Kashef and today we're learning to Use the First Quadrant! The first quadrant is the top-right section of the grid where both x and y are positive numbers. All points here have positive coordinates. This is the most common area we use in Grade 5! Ready to explore the happy positive corner? Let’s go! 🚀

🧠 What is the First Quadrant?

The first quadrant is where:

x is positive (right of y-axis)
y is positive (above x-axis)

All numbers are greater than 0!

First Quadrant → Positive x and Positive y

📍 Points in the First Quadrant

(2, 3) — 2 right, 3 up

(5, 1) — 5 right, 1 up

(4, 6) — 4 right, 6 up

🎯 Practice Using the First Quadrant

1. Plot (3, 4) — where is it?

3 right and 4 up from (0,0)

2. A point is 6 right and 2 up. What is its coordinate?

(6, 2)

3. Is (–2, 5) in the first quadrant?

No — negative x is not in first quadrant

🗺️ Real-Life First Quadrant

Problem 1: On a game map, your character starts at (0,0). You move 7 steps right and 4 steps up. What coordinate are you at?

(7, 4)

Problem 2: A plant grew 5 cm tall in week 1 and 8 cm in week 2. Plot these as points and see the pattern.

(1,5) and (2,8)
