Hello my wonderful Grade 5 superstar! π
I'm Kashef and today we're learning to Use Inverse Operations! Inverse means "opposite". To solve equations, we do the opposite of what we see. This keeps the equation balanced like a seesaw! Ready to become an Inverse Operation Wizard? Letβs go! π
π§ What are Inverse Operations?
They are opposite math actions that undo each other:
- Addition β Subtraction
- Multiplication β Division
Always do the inverse to BOTH sides of the equation!
βοΈ Step-by-Step Examples
Example 1: x + 8 = 20
x = 20 - 8 = 12
Example 2: x - 6 = 11
x = 11 + 6 = 17
Example 3: 5x = 35
x = 35 Γ· 5 = 7
π― Letβs Practice Inverse Operations!
1. x + 9 = 24
2. n - 7 = 13
3. 4y = 36
π Real-Life Inverse Problems
Problem 1: After giving away 12 stickers, you have 28 left. How many did you start with? (Let x = starting stickers)
Problem 2: 6 friends share some pizza slices equally and each gets 8 slices. How many slices were there total?
π§ͺ Quick Inverse Operations Quiz
Question: x - 15 = 27. What inverse do we use and what is x?
You are an Inverse Operations Wizard! ππ₯³
Kashef is super proud of you! You can now use opposite operations to solve equations perfectly.
Inverse operations are a superpower in algebra β youβre getting so strong at math!
