📋 Order of Operations (BEDMAS)

Brackets first
Exponents (we'll skip today)
Division and Multiplication (left to right)
Addition and Subtraction (left to right)

✍️ Step-by-Step Examples

Example 1: 12 + 6 × 3

12 + 18 = 30

Example 2: (12 + 6) × 3

18 × 3 = 54

Example 3: 20 − 4 × 2 + 6

Multiply first: 4 × 2 = 8
20 − 8 + 6
12 + 6 = 18

🛒 Real-Life Word Problems

Problem 1: You buy 3 notebooks for $4 each and 2 pens for $3 each. How much do you spend total?

(3 × 4) + (2 × 3) = 18

Problem 2: A pizza costs $24. You and 3 friends share it equally after eating 6 slices total. How much does each person pay if there are 12 slices?

(24 ÷ 12) × 6 = 12 slices eaten → remaining cost shared: but simpler: total $24 for 4 people = $6 each
