🌡️ What is the Celsius Scale?
The Celsius scale is a temperature scale where:
- Water freezes at 0°C
- Water boils at 100°C
It is named after a Swedish scientist named Anders Celsius.
🌡️ Common Celsius Temperatures
Very Cold: -20°C (winter coat and scarf weather)
Cold: 0°C (freezing point, snow and ice)
Cool: 10°C (light jacket)
Room Temperature: 20–22°C (comfortable indoors)
Warm: 25–30°C (shorts and t-shirt)
Hot: 35°C+ (very hot summer day)
📊 Reading a Thermometer
Most thermometers in Canada show Celsius.
- Numbers above 0 = positive (warm)
- Numbers below 0 = negative (cold)
Examples:
• 28°C = nice warm day
• -5°C = cold, wear a winter jacket
• 100°C = boiling water (very hot!)
✏️ Let’s Practice Together, My Dear Student!
Practice 1: Read the Temperature
1. 32°C → Very warm / hot day
2. -8°C → Cold winter day
3. 21°C → Comfortable room temperature
Practice 2: Choose the Best Temperature
1. Swimming weather → 28°C
2. Wearing a winter coat → -10°C
3. Boiling water for tea → 100°C
Practice 3: Word Problems (Canadian Style)
1. In the morning it was -3°C. By afternoon it rose 12 degrees. What was the temperature in the afternoon?
-3 + 12 = 9°C
2. Water freezes at 0°C. If the temperature is -5°C, how many degrees below freezing is it?
5 degrees below freezing
Challenge Question
The temperature outside is 15°C. Inside your house it is 22°C. How many degrees warmer is it inside?
7°C warmer
Fantastic Job, My Dear Student! 🎉
You now understand the Celsius Scale and how to read temperatures! This is very important for daily life in Canada.
I am so proud of you for completing the Temperature part of Measurement. Next time you check the weather, say the temperature out loud in Celsius!
💕 You are smart. You are kind. You can do hard things.
When you are ready, tell me the next topic and I will create another beautiful lesson just for you!
