🌟 Measurement – Area 🌟

Today we are learning about **Area**! Area tells us how much space is inside a shape. It’s like counting how many squares fit inside a room or a book cover.

📐 What is Area?

Area is the amount of surface covered by a flat shape. We measure area in **square units** like square centimetres (cm²) or square metres (m²).

⬛ Area of a Rectangle

The formula is easy: Area = Length × Width

Example:

A rectangle is 8 cm long and 5 cm wide.

Area = 8 × 5 = 40 cm²

(40 little squares fit inside!)

⬛ Area of a Square

All sides are equal, so: Area = Side × Side

Example:

A square has sides of 6 cm.

Area = 6 × 6 = 36 cm²

⭐ Area of Irregular Shapes

We can break the shape into rectangles or count the squares on grid paper.

Example:
A shape made of two rectangles:
Rectangle A: 4 cm × 3 cm = 12 cm²
Rectangle B: 5 cm × 2 cm = 10 cm²

Total Area = 22 cm²

1. Your classroom rug is 8 metres long and 5 metres wide. What is the area?
40 m²

2. You want to paint a wall that is 6 m long and 3 m high. How much area will you paint?
18 m²
Challenge Question

A garden is made of two parts: one rectangle 5 m × 4 m and another 3 m × 2 m. What is the total area?
20 m² + 6 m² = 26 m²
