The Hour Hand (shorter hand) tells the hour
The Minute Hand (longer hand) tells the minutes

1. The minute hand is on 6 β 30 minutes
Hour hand is between 2 and 3 β 2:30 (half past 2)

Hour hand is on 9 β 9:15 (quarter past 9)
3. The minute hand is on 9 β 45 minutes
Hour hand is on 10 β 10:45 (quarter to 11)
