Today we are learning how to compare decimals — which one is bigger, smaller, or equal. This is a very useful skill for money, measurement, and sports scores!

📏 How to Compare Decimals

Just like comparing whole numbers, we compare decimals **digit by digit** starting from the left. Always line up the decimal points first!

✅ 1. Same Number of Decimal Places

Compare 0.45 and 0.52

0.45
0.52

Same in tenths place (both 5? Wait — 4 vs 5)
4 < 5 in the tenths place → 0.45 < 0.52

🔍 2. Different Number of Decimal Places

Add zeros to make them the same length, then compare.

Compare 0.6 and 0.45

0.60
0.45

Tenths: 6 > 4 → 0.6 > 0.45
Compare 1.3 and 1.29

1.30
1.29

Hundredths: 0 > 9? No → 1.3 > 1.29

0.75 > 0.68  0.4 < 0.52  1.25 = 1.250

2. A hockey player scored 0.75 goals per game last season and 0.8 this season. Did his scoring improve?
0.8 > 0.75 → Yes!
