🌟 Long Division Introduction 🌟

Hello my dear student! I am Miss Brenda, your kind and caring Grade 4 math teacher 💕

Today we start learning Long Division! This is a very important skill in Canadian Grade 4 math. We will go slowly and step by step so you feel confident.

➗ What is Long Division?

Long Division is a step-by-step method to divide bigger numbers (2-digit, 3-digit, or more) by a 1-digit number. It helps us divide when the numbers are too big to do in our head.

We use four easy steps: Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down

📋 The Four Steps (D M S B)

  1. Divide — How many times does the divisor go into the first part of the dividend?
  2. Multiply — Multiply your answer by the divisor.
  3. Subtract — Subtract the product from the current number.
  4. Bring Down — Bring down the next digit and repeat the steps.

🌟 Example 1: 84 ÷ 4

Step by step:

4 ) 84
  -8  ← 4 × 2 = 8

  -4  ← 4 × 1 = 4

Answer: 21

🌟 Example 2: 96 ÷ 6

6 ) 96

  -6  (6 × 1 = 6)

  -36 (6 × 6 = 36)

1. A hockey team scored 96 points in 6 games. How many points per game?
96 ÷ 6 = 16 points per game

2. There are 85 stickers. Put them equally into 5 bags. How many stickers in each bag?
85 ÷ 5 = 17 stickers per bag
