Hello my dear student! I am Miss Brenda, your kind and caring Grade 4 math teacher π
Today we are learning how to multiply a single digit (1 to 9) by bigger numbers (2, 3, or 4 digits). This is a very important Grade 4 skill in Canadian schools!
We multiply a 1-digit number by a multi-digit number using the standard method. We multiply each digit, starting from the right (Ones place), and regroup (carry) when needed β just like in addition!
236
Γ 4
-------
944
Steps:
4 Γ 6 = 24 β write 4, carry 2
4 Γ 3 = 12 + 2 = 14 β write 4, carry 1
4 Γ 2 = 8 + 1 = 9
Answer: 944
1,458
Γ 7

10,206
Answer: 10,206

I am so proud of how hard you are working. Practice a few questions every day and you will become super fast.
π You are smart. You are kind. You can do hard things.
When you are ready, tell me the next topic (Properties of Multiplication, Division, or anything else from the syllabus) and I will create another beautiful lesson just for you!
