✖️ What are Multiplication Facts?
Multiplication facts are all the answers to times tables from 0 × 0 up to 10 × 10 (and sometimes 12 × 12). In Canadian Grade 4, we focus on becoming fast and confident with facts up to 9 × 9.
Multiplication means repeated addition or equal groups.
🌟 Why Do We Need Multiplication Facts?
- To solve bigger multiplication problems quickly
- To help with division (they are opposites!)
- To make arrays and area easier
- To solve real-life problems (like buying 8 packs of 6 hockey cards)
🛠️ Helpful Strategies to Learn Facts
1. Skip Counting
3 × 6 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 18 (count by 3s six times)
2. Arrays (Pictures of Equal Groups)
4 × 7 = 28 → Imagine 4 rows of 7 dots
3. Known Facts to Find Unknown
You know 5 × 6 = 30
So 6 × 6 = 30 + 6 = 36
