Today we are learning **Data Literacy and Probability**! We will explore how to collect information using surveys and experiments, and how to organize that data so we can understand it better.

📋 Surveys – Asking People Questions

A survey is when we ask the same question to many people to collect data.

Good Survey Example:

Question: “What is your favourite season?”
Choices: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter

We ask our classmates and family!

🧪 Experiments – Testing and Observing

An experiment is when we test something and record the results.

Fun Experiment Ideas:

• Flip a coin 20 times and count heads and tails
• Roll a die 30 times and record each number
• See how long it takes different objects to fall

✏️ Let’s Practice Together, My Dear Student!

Practice 1: Create a Survey Question

Write one good survey question about favourite sports or foods.
Example: “What is your favourite Canadian animal: beaver, moose, loon, or polar bear?”
Practice 2: Experiment

If you roll a die 12 times, what do you think will happen?
We expect each number (1–6) to appear about 2 times, but it can be different!
Practice 3: Organize This Data

Favourite Colours: Red, Blue, Red, Green, Blue, Blue, Red, Green, Red, Blue

Make a tally chart and totals.
Red: 4 Blue: 4 Green: 2
Challenge Question

You surveyed 20 students about their favourite day of the week. Monday: 3, Tuesday: 5, Wednesday: 4, Thursday: 3, Friday: 5. How many chose the weekend days?
0 (you only asked about weekdays) — or if you asked all days, total would be 20!
