How to Calculate Change
Step 1: Add up what you buy Step 2: Pay with a bill or coins Step 3: Subtract to find change
You buy something for $7.35 and pay with $10.
$10.00 - $7.35 = $2.65 change
Example 1 – Simple Change
A notebook costs $4.75. You pay with a $10 bill.
Change = $5.25
You can get: 1 toonie + 1 loonie + 1 quarter
Example 2 – More Coins
You buy a toy for $8.40 and pay with $10.
Change = $1.60
1 loonie + 2 quarters + 1 dime
Example 3 – Exact Amount
A pencil costs $1.25. You pay with exactly $1.25 (1 loonie + 1 quarter).
Change = $0.00
