Hello my wonderful Grade 1 superstars! ❤️
Today we will learn:
• What probability means (the chance something will happen)
• Three important words: Impossible, Possible, Certain
• How to decide if something can never happen, might happen, or will definitely happen
• To use these words when talking about everyday events
1. Three Special Words 🔑
Impossible → It can **never** happen
A fish can fly in the sky → Impossible
Possible → It **might** happen
It might rain tomorrow → Possible
Certain → It will **definitely** happen
The sun will rise tomorrow morning → Certain
2. Let's Decide Together! 🤔
Will a dog drive a car? → Impossible
Will you eat lunch today? → Possible
Will the school bell ring at the end of the day? → Certain
Will it snow in July in Ontario? → Impossible
Will you grow taller this year? → Possible
3. More Everyday Examples 🌍
If I drop a ball, will it fall down? → Certain
Can a tree walk? → Impossible
Will I see the moon at night sometimes? → Possible
Will tomorrow be my birthday? → Possible (only if it really is!)
4. Fun Activities to Practice 🎲
Sort picture cards into Impossible / Possible / Certain boxes.
Play “Will it happen?” game with a partner.
Draw three pictures: one impossible, one possible, one certain.
Look around the classroom and say things that are certain (the clock will tick, the sun will set…).
Make a class list of things that are impossible for humans (fly without wings, breathe underwater…).
