Today we will learn:
• What a pattern is
• Repeating patterns (AB, ABC, AABB…)
• Growing patterns (getting bigger or smaller)
• How to describe, extend, and create patterns
• How patterns are all around us!

1. What is a Pattern? 🔄

A pattern is something that repeats in a regular way.

It’s like a song or a dance that keeps going the same way.

2. Repeating Patterns 🔁

AB Pattern
red, blue, red, blue, red, blue…

ABC Pattern
circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle…

AABB Pattern
star star heart heart, star star heart heart…

3. Growing Patterns 📈

1, 2, 3, 4, 5… (adding one more each time)

⭐ ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
(getting bigger by one star each time)

4. Patterns in Real Life 🌍

• The days of the week repeat every 7 days
• Traffic lights: red → yellow → green → red…
• Your clothes: stripes or polka dots
• Sounds: clap clap snap, clap clap snap

5. How to Extend a Pattern ➡️

Given: red, blue, red, blue, red, ___ , ___
Next two: blue, red

Given: 2, 4, 6, 8, ___ , ___
Next two: 10, 12

6. Fun Activities to Practice 🎲

  • Make patterns with crayons, blocks, or snacks (AB, ABC, AABB).
  • Continue a pattern your teacher or friend starts.
  • Draw repeating patterns on paper.
  • Find patterns on your clothes, in the classroom, or outside.
  • Play “Pattern Detective” — guess the next item in the line.
  • Create a growing pattern with stickers or drawings.
