Hello my wonderful Grade 1 superstars! ❤️

Today we will learn:
• What temperature means (how hot or cold something is)
• Hot, warm, cool, and cold
• How to read a simple thermometer
• What to wear in different temperatures
• How temperature changes during the day and seasons

1. What is Temperature? 🌡️

Temperature tells us how **hot** or **cold** something is.

We feel it on our skin and we can measure it with a thermometer.

2. Hot, Warm, Cool, Cold 🔥 ❄️

Very Hot → Like a sunny summer day or hot soup ☀️🍜

Warm → Like a cozy blanket or hot chocolate 🧣☕

Cool → Like a spring morning or cool water 🌸💧

Very Cold → Like winter snow or ice cream in the freezer ❄️🍦

3. The Thermometer 📏

A thermometer is a special tool that shows temperature.

• Red part goes **up** when it gets hotter

• Red part goes **down** when it gets colder

4. What Should We Wear? 👕

Hot day → T-shirt and shorts

Warm day → Light jacket or sweater

Cold day → Coat, hat, scarf and mittens

Very cold day (winter in Ontario) → Heavy winter coat, boots, and snow pants

5. Temperature Changes 🌞❄️

In the morning it can be cool.
At noon it gets warmer.
At night it gets cooler again.

In summer → mostly hot or warm
In winter → mostly cold or very cold

6. Fun Activities to Practice 🎲

  • Look at the weather each day and say if it is hot, warm, cool or cold.
  • Sort pictures of clothes: what to wear on hot days vs cold days.
  • Draw a thermometer and colour the red part for hot and cold days.
  • Play “Temperature Charades” — act out hot, cold, warm, cool.
  • Feel different things (ice, warm water, room temperature) and describe them.
  • Make a class chart: “Today’s temperature feels…”
