Hello my wonderful Grade 1 superstars! ❤️

Today we will learn:
• How to count by 1's (normal counting)
• How to count by 2's (skip counting)
• How to count by 5's
• How to count by 10's (the easiest!)
• Why skip counting helps us in math and daily life

1. Counting by 1's 1️⃣

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20...

This is our regular counting!

2. Counting by 2's (Skip Counting) 2️⃣

2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20

We say every even number! Great for counting pairs of shoes or eyes 👟👟

Real life: You have 5 pairs of socks.
2, 4, 6, 8, 10 → You have 10 socks!

3. Counting by 5's 5️⃣

5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100

Super easy! Just add 5 each time.

Real life: You have 8 groups of 5 stickers.
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 → You have 40 stickers! ⭐

4. Counting by 10's – The Easiest! 🔟

10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100

Just add one more ten each time! 🟦

Real life: There are 7 boxes with 10 crayons each.
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 → You have 70 crayons! 🖍️

5. Fun Activities to Practice 🎲

  • Count by 2's while clapping or jumping with both feet.
  • Count by 5's using your fingers (one hand = 5).
  • Count by 10's while counting dimes or groups of 10 objects.
  • Make a big number line on the floor and skip count along it.
  • Play “I Say, You Say” — Teacher says 5, you say 10, 15, 20…
  • Use toys: count 2 eyes, 5 fingers, 10 blocks at a time.

6. Why Skip Counting is Important 💡

Skip counting helps us:
• Count faster
• Understand multiplication later
• Count money (nickels, dimes)
• Tell time (by 5 minutes)
• Feel confident in math!
