Today we will learn:
• What sequencing means
• How to put pictures and events in the correct order
• How to order numbers from smallest to greatest and greatest to smallest
• How to explain the order using words like first, next, then, last
• Why sequencing helps us in math and in our daily life

1. What is Sequencing? 📖

Sequencing means putting things in the correct order – like telling a story from beginning to end.

Think about your day:

Wake up → Brush teeth → Eat breakfast → Go to school

This is a sequence! Everything happens in the right order.

2. Sequencing with Pictures and Stories 🖼️

Example 1: Making a Sandwich

1️⃣ Get bread
2️⃣ Put peanut butter
3️⃣ Put jam
4️⃣ Put another bread on top
5️⃣ Eat it! 😋

Example 2: Planting a Seed

1️⃣ Put seed in soil
2️⃣ Water the soil
3️⃣ Wait and watch
4️⃣ A little plant grows!
5️⃣ The plant gets bigger and has flowers

Example 3: Getting Ready for School

1️⃣ Wake up
2️⃣ Wash face and brush teeth
3️⃣ Eat breakfast
4️⃣ Put on school clothes

3. Sequencing Numbers 🔢

From Smallest to Greatest (Ascending Order)

3 → 7 → 12 → 19 → 28 → 45

We count forward: smallest number first, then bigger and bigger.

From Greatest to Smallest (Descending Order)

50 → 41 → 33 → 22 → 15 → 8

We count backward: biggest number first, then smaller and smaller.

More Number Sequencing Examples:

5 → 10 → 15 → 20 → 25 (counting by 5s)

2 → 4 → 6 → 8 → 10 (counting by 2s)

4. Using Words: First, Next, Then, Last 📝

Example: How to Make Lemonade

  • First: Squeeze the lemons
  • Next: Add water and sugar
  • Then: Stir everything together
  • Last: Put ice and drink! 🍋

Example 1: Building a Snowman

1. Make big snowball (body)
2. Make medium snowball (middle)
3. Make small snowball (head)
4. Put them together and add eyes, nose, scarf

Example 2: Daily Routine

1. Wake up in the morning
2. Eat breakfast
3. Go to school
4. Learn and play
5. Come home and do homework
6. Eat dinner
7. Go to bed

Example 3: Number Pattern

10 → 20 → 30 → 40 → 50

6. How to Think Step by Step (Like a Mathematician)

When you see pictures or events:

  1. Look at all the pictures carefully.
  2. Find what happens first.
  3. Find what happens next.
  4. Find what happens last.
  5. Put them in order and explain: “First this, then that...”

7. Fun Activities to Practice at Home or School 🎲

  • Cut out pictures from a story and put them in the correct order.
  • Draw the steps of brushing your teeth or tying your shoes.
  • Order number cards from 1 to 50 (smallest to greatest).
  • Tell your mom or dad the sequence of making your favourite snack.
  • Play “What comes next?” game with patterns or daily routines.
  • Use blocks or toys to show the order of building something.
